Le Corbusier

Le Corbusier Portrait

Le Corbusier, whose real name was Charles-Edouard Jeanneret, was one of the dominant forces in twentieth-century architecture. Many forms he created have become archetypes of modernism. Le Corbusier was born in Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, in 1887. Most of his life, he spent in France.

In 1910 and 1911 he came to Germany and got acquainted with the Bauhaus movement. He taught architecture at the artcollege in La-Chauxe-de-fonds and was associated with the `Congres Internationaux d‘Architecture Moderne´.

In his book `Vers une nouvelle Architecture´, Le Corbusier presents his ideas about modern architecture and design. He criticized mass-produced kitsch: `In all ages and with all people, man has created for his use objects of prime necessity …associated with his organism and helping to complete it.´
